No - - shaking is not normal. Do you feel any pulsation in the brakes (pedal) or through the steering wheel? You may have a warped brake disc if the pulsation is there. Is the shake sudden (comes and goes quickly)? or does it start intense and then lessen. Do you feel it in your seat / bottom? ( this is beginning to sound like porn !) That may be suspension related.

Those are my thoughts for the moment - now I'm going to go take a shower

Is the shake coming from the wheels/brakes/rotors or from the engine?
I notice that I get a rougher idling engine when I fuel up with 87 octane but at 92 I don't feel any shaking. The shaking I've felt is because of the rough idle.

Yes. It is. Start saving for some tires.

There is no "law" requiring 'Premium' octane gasoline -- So you are allowed to use regular octane gasoline in cases where the recommended fuel is not available. You can expect reduced performance because the engine control systems will detect knock and other abnormal operating conditions and adjust accordingly.

Should be NO shaking.
Sounds like a wheel/tire issue to me.

Although I wouldn't say my car shakes I do notice a different feel in the V8's when idling vs a straight six beemer. To me its just V8 rumble having owned American muscle cars. A BMW straight six is sewing machine smooth when idling, the V8's just don't have the same inherent balance in the motor's design.

So if the V-8's a rockin ... don't come a-knockin!
