I don't think OEM shadowline trim cost $1200 I don't know where your getting your quote from but DYAMMM! You can get a price quote from Tischer BMW or Newport BMW and see. I purchased my from my dealer for $210 all the trim pieces and labor I did it myself which there is an DYI on the fourm.

[1] Glanzschwarz (Highgloss; a piano black gloss finish)
[2] Schwarz (Matte black)
In total the complete set compromises of 16 separate items; 8 per side. This includes the wing-mirror housings, 6 covers and 8 finishers.
Here in the UK, (and I expect everywhere else), Schwarz is substantially cheaper than the Glanzschwarz. Expect to pay upwards of £1,000 / $1,666 at some dealerships in the UK for the Glanzschwarz. The cheapest I've seen this for is around £890 / $1,482; and that was with a healthy discount!
