I"ve had this same error last year. At first I thought it was because the gas cover wasn't screwed on all the way (some have claimed this was a cause). It happened over and over again so I finally took it in. At first they reset the code, only to come back on a few weeks later. I don't recall exactly what they did, but it WAS covered under warranty. I'll check my records and will get back to you.

Just this last past week I had the secondary air hoses replaced along with gaskets for the valve and timing chain covers.
When the check engine light (increased emissions) warning came on, I wasn't having any problems until the temperature dropped in the 40's. When I would start the car in the morning it would idle roughly until it was up to operating temperature. Mornings when it wasn't cold it would start up just fine for the most part.
Now for the gaskets. From what my indy shop has been telling me, they have replaced the same gaskets in three cars with this engine type in the last 2 to 3 weeks. I was having to add a quart of oil every month or so because of this. When the engine was tore down I visited the shop to take a look at what was going on. The tech showed me the timing chain cover gaskets, when I inspected them, they were brittle. I actually was able to snap it apart easily.
Picked up the car Wednesday afternoon. The check engine light for emissions came back on yesterday (Saturday). The car is running fine. I'm taking it back to the shop tommorow after work to have them read the code and see what's going on now.
