When I started the car yesterday, the mileage display said 700 miles until next service. After driving approx. 50 miles and stopping, upon restart, the display said "Service Due Now" or something to that effect. After driving another 50 miles back home, stopping and restarting, the display says 800 miles til next service. So, at what point do I make the call to schedule the service at my dealer? My gut tells me not to do it until the display settles on "Service Due" or "Service Overdue" or whatever it will say when it finally settles down. My car is not a daily driver, and I accomplished a low mileage annual oil change a couple of months ago, so I know the oil is in good shape. Do you agree with my assessment of the urgency of scheduling the service?

I'd wait until you get a consistent service due message. As you may know, the car has a "condition based" service indicator that will adjust the requirements for some things based on driving style, climate, etc.

Also, the car should actually make the service call for you when it detects something is due or coming due within 30 days. Whether or not the call actually causes a dealer to call you back is another matter...

Well, it appears that the technician did not reset the mileage in your i drive. It is usually 15K(depending on how hard you drive) between oil changes or 12 months. I would have it reset by the dealer with the correct mileage for the next oil change.

That's funny, mine just started whining about needing service in 700 miles as well. I had an oil change service done fairly recently -- within the past 1,000 miles or so. I can't figure out what it wants this time. Strange. I'm beginning to think that my car has a little thing for Rocky, my SA.

Are you sure the "Service due" is for oil in either or both cases (OP and acme)? Maybe something else is due although I admit in the case of low milage its hard to imagine what it would be (possibly 2 year brake fluid flush?)

If it is for oil then I agree with GP550 that you did not get reset.

Yes, it is for the oil. The brake fluid flush is indicating due on 02/2008.

When I had my low mileage annual oil change done in August, the tech said he was not resetting the mileage in iDrive. I didn't question him as to why and just assumed that I would make another appt. when the iDrive came due. I only started this post to determine how people handle the mileage variations. In other words, wait for iDrive to settle into the Service Due mode.

I am thinking now that I will wait until at least 02/2008 when the brake fluid will be due, regardless of the mileage-based oil change notification. I won't be putting that many more miles on the car due to winter road conditions here in Colorado since I do not have a winter tire package on the car and can only drive when the roads are dry. The dilemma I will face then will be if the mileage for oil change is not yet indicating due.
