Hi All,

I'm just in the process of buying my first BMW. 520d M Sport, and had a question.

Is it worth getting the 'Service and Maintenance' pack? What does it include, and does it work out cheaper than paying for the parts/labour seperately over the course of 3 years?

I will be doing around 25-30k miles per year which will make a difference to the price (especially on tires/brakes).

Thanks,

Paul

Service and maintenance includes all sheduled parts and labour. Inludes oil, filters, brake pads, discs, clutch and a few chnages of wiper blades.

Services will come up about every 15,000 miles.

If you intend to keep the car it is worth thinking about, IMHO in the UK it is worth the cost, though it is no longer the no brainer it was when prices were 40% lower.

If you take the service only package it only includes oil changes etc, not brakes and clutch.

Having only just taken delivery of mine, I can't comment on long term running costs.
But to me it was worth paying a fixed fee in return for the knowledge that for the next 5 years I shouldn't get any nasty surprises.

I guess your dealer should have "menu" prices for all major services, but you never know how many you'll need, or what may happen in between.

regards
Nick

Pretty much depends on the labour rates of your dealer and, as said before, how long you want to keep it.

I'd say using a central London or similar dealer, yes. I have worked it out for myself and it would have been about the money. Not more not less. Supplying my own oil, sourced very much cheaper, would probably even have made this a worse deal for myself.

If you keep the car long enough and you want financially rather worry free motoring for 5 years or 60k miles, then it is worth considering, as the cost will be incorporated in the new car price.

Good luck

London dealers charge ?150/hour labour.

Provided your mileage is "high enough" to get the condition-based servicing in, it's well worth it.

I did it for the peace of mind. 5 years carefree motoring (or less!!)

Not worth it. I purchased it last year and I've already had problems with my dealership covering a simple software upgrade (for Idriive warning= active steering fault)

But this is a WARRANTY issue not a SERVICE one.

Service pack is great - I had it for free on my last e46 - only problem I have seen is that the dealers are reluctant to do work earlier than the idrive states - cause it's their money.
