Hope someone can help me with some questions.
1. Had a problem with rough running engine in Phoenix (110 degrees), seems to have stopped but as bad as it was I wonder if it should be checked.
2. Does everyone use premium (91) octane gas in their 545?
3. If I havent had a software upgrade in a while (6 months) should I call and ask for one? Is curent software a reasonable service request? It seems like there may be problems with the parking LED's after the upgrade?
4. I have problems with my passenger side window about 50% of the time activating the anti-trap. Is this software or window motor?
5. My service rep tells me that I cannot get AUX input added for my IPOD. If I have this done aftermarket will I screw up my warranty?
Thanks

Here's my answers:
1) never gets that hot here!
2) yes
3) don't think they'll upgrade just for asking, and I just got 17.01 and all my lights work
4) they replaced my front passenger window drive and it's fixed--now the drivers window is acting up...
5) I had aux input installed 2 weeks ago--why did they say you can't get it installed? I don't think there's a way to do it aftermarket (at a reasonable cost) with the MOST bus

I had a rough running issue and they adjusted the valve clearance quoting a service bulletin (you'll probably find it with a search here, or I can post the bulletin number when I get home tonight). It's better, but not *totally* eliminated. One other thing is that my SA was saying that the rough idle/running issue is much more prevalent in states like CA that have crappy gas, he said that BMW have told them that they see the rough idle issues primarily over on the west coast. I see you're in AZ, no idea if you can get better than 91 octane there but if you can it's worth a try. My SA also implied that using an octane booster could help with the gas issues. Anyone done that? If so, did it make an appreciable difference?

My Ride: 2005 545i (SMG)
Titanium Gray
Black Interior, Anthracite Trim
M-tech kit
Sport Package
Premium Sound
Satellite Radio
Active Cruise
Comfort Seats
Navigation
Folding rear seats
Never had rough engine.
I use premium gas (93 octane)
I am getting service soon, and will demand a free software upgrade to fix the following:
Radio always turns on when car starts
Bluetooth 30 second outgoing call limit
iDrive restarts itself occassionally
iDrive doesn't always turn off when I turn off car, runs down battery
My passenger window antitrap gets tripped almost everytime I roll it down. I will have them fix that.
My sunroof also makes a terrible banging noise when I close it after using the vent feature. Its very startling.

Mine is a 545i and my friend's is a 520i with a 2.2 li engine.
It gets rather hot here in Singapore at times and we have both experienced rough idling and hesitation when it gets really hot here (approx 36 degrees C) We use 98 octane petrol.
As for your window, I suggest getting it checked. I had a problem with my driver's side window. Everytime I use the remote to unwind and wind my windows, the driver's side will stay halfway refusing to budge. The dealer here changed the motor and all has been fine ever since. Regards the anti-trap, just try wiping your window clean and it should work fine. Otherwise it could be the sensors that are dirty and this requires action by your dealer.
I got my ride upgraded to 16.2 about a month or so back. My lights still work fine. However, I have heard that some of our locals are having problems with the "eyebrows" not working after the ver 17 software.
I personally do not think I will ever need the ipod in my ride, but a few guys here in Singapore have had that done by the local agent here. They're pretty happy with it. Tell your dealer the guys as far away as SIngapore can get this done thru their BMW dealer ant there is no reason why they can't do it for you; especially so as I-Pod is American. Get them to check with BMW on how to do it.

Thanks

5: Don't tell them its the Ipod Aux. I'm sure they misinterpreted thinking you're asking for IPOD integration via IDrive. Just tell them you want the AUX for other audio sources (ie portable DVD player, laptop, PSP, portable CD, etc)
And it does not void your warranty. The work is performed by BMW tech and not by outside vendors.

2. I use 93 octane (Florida) in same engine as yours.
3. Software may fix #1 and #4 so free. You could also claim iDrive screen blanking if u needed more ammo.
4. Anti trap is usually software. This and your engine problem ought to get you number 3. If software does not fix then u (and dealer) should know its hardware.
5. As mentioned by other members do not tie Ipod to Aux Input. It is generic to all audio sources. I use cassette taoe and MP3 Player. Only BMW part. Do another search - go to mod forum for this search - Find bulletin and list of dealers, though I do not remember Arizona in the list. But that is non essential - Print list and hand to dealer - it is quite common - at least for us E60.netters.
And Welcome to the forum and mighty fine ride u got

1. I had a rough idle, they raised the idle speed. Its better but not gone.
2. Always
3. Software sometimes fixes things but sometimes renders other things inoperable. Not all of the E60's have the same hardware so the softwares effects can be different from car to car. If nothing is wrong, might not be worth the risk to update the software.
