SUBJECT
Non-Return Valve Parts Found In Engine Oil Filter During Engine Oil Service
MODEL
E60 (5 Series) 545i, E63 and E64 (6 Series) 645Ci and 645CiC, E65 and E66 (7 Series) 745i and 745Li, E53 (X5) 4.4i and 4.8is equipped with N62 engine
SITUATION
While performing an oil service, removal of the oil filter may reveal one or more of the following parts have dislodged from the engine oil pump. These parts make up the internal non-return valve inside the engine oil pump. The customer does not complain of loss of oil pressure while driving or does the vehicle exhibit any drivability complaints.

Engine Oil Pump Non-Return Valve Parts:
1. Metal Spring
2. Metal Spacer
3. Plastic Plunger
4. Plastic Cap
Note: These parts are not related to the oil pressure regulator located within the engine oil pump. The engine will not lose oil pressure while being operated.
PROCEDURE
Submit a Puma Case to the Drivetrain Group indicating "N62 Oil Pump Parts in Filter" in the subject field. Do not release the vehicle until a response is received.

That doesn't sound good. I have 3 months before I take the car for the complimentary oil change. Wondering if I should take it in earlier.

I would not worry about it - since the engine does not lose oil pressure. I have 22k on mine with no problems and actually just changed my oil.

I just had oil change last month as well and no mention of this issue. Don't know my service department well enough to know if they would tell me or not, but assume they would.

Thanks cd. Are our engines supposed to have oil pressure? I wonder how much we can trust farkled software to tell us what we need to know. At least we haven't heard much, if anything, about bad oil-pressure readings. And, I wouldn't mind having a few analog gauges for some extra special things--like oil pressure, water temperature, and oil temperature.

The most troubilng part of the announcement is this, implying that there may be more.....

<Do not release the vehicle until a response is received. >

My thoughts exactly.

They know that there is a problem. And then they don't seem to know how to fix it.

So will the car be kept in the shop until the response is received? YES PANIC.

HOLY Macro! My car is currently in the dealer... I just got the 1 year service oil change but waiting on a part on the window trim so they kept it over night.

Wonder if I should ask the Tech if they noticed anything funny when they changed the oil and filter.
