Does anyone know what this might be?

About half the time i use the satalite radio i am missing a bunch of stations when the menu is clicked on All Stations. What happens is CH22 - 40something are just missing, in other words it goes 19 20 21 51 52. If i then click on genre and hit rock or rap then they are there. I don't understand why it is happening.

Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, mine would do that once in a while. don't know why but i would normally turn off the car completely and restart the car. It's like doing a reboot on your computer, but it always comes back.

Typically all satellite radios (both Sirius and XM) work in pretty much the same manner. The radios are always in the "deauthorized" mode until they see their own unique ESN (electronic serial number) in the data stream coming from the satellite every so many minutes and they "authorize" themselves electronically to permit complete channel reception or to continue authorization for current active radios (Yes all 6 million subscriber ESN's are transmitted ). If the radio is switched "on" and authorized and then it doesn't read it's ESN due to signal interuption for a predetermined number of authorization cycles like in a long tunnel or parked in a garage it's possible that the radio will "deauthorize" itself and shut down reception for all but a few "sample" channels.

If you're radio fails to come back on you can turn it off and than turn it back on after a short period to see if reception (authorization) returns or to jump start satellite reception call the Sirius toll free phone number displayed and customer service can send an instant "refresh" signal with just your ESN from the satellite to reauthorize your radio in minutes before waiting for the next full authorization cycle.

BMW adds more complexity to reception problems because the Sirius tuner is just another input on the E60's MOST optical bus feeding into the central computer behind iDrive. Other problems can occur within this system such as software hiccups that suggests specific hardware failure, whether CD, Sat radio, regular radio, Nav, etc. As an example AM, FM and Sat station presets are all stored in the CCC and sometimes I lose my presets but not actual radio or Sat radio reception for "all" channels. Other times I lose just Sat radio reception for ALL stations but not the presets. I am watching this situation carefully with my SA since either the CCC is defective or my software version is buggy and needs to be updated (which I don't think is the case since it was recently updated to latest version).

My guess is you may be having iDrive software or computer issues like I suspect is the case with my situation and not a defect of the Sirius tuner itself (they're made by Delphi and they RARELY go on the fritz). iDrive doesn't want to play well with your Sirius tuner and the result is erratic but not fatal sateliite radio operation.

First you need to ditch the knock-off Serrius radio and get a real Sirius system. j/k

I think it might have something to do with the XM merger. I've noticed lately that my signal drops in and out for no reason even when there's clear airspace all around me. It didn't happen before. And it practically never happened in my previous car with Sirius unless I was deep in a parking garage or under some seriously thick foliage, no pun intended. My ex had a car with XM and it'd fade out a lot in clear airspace. XM sucks!
