It's not a serious malfunction and they are easy to replce.
Service will find the broken senson in no time,
the cars computers register and locate the problem.

My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i
Ok, so I dropped the car in the morning. The SA called sometime ago, and told me that there is a SENSOR in the STEERING COLUMN which is MALFUNCTIONING. He said that he doesn't remember the name of the sensor right now, but it is because of that part all these WEIRD messages are coming.
I asked him about brakes, and he said, that The comfort stop cannot determine the position of the steering, therefore it is grabbing at the DISC BRAKES as well.
Therefore replacing that one sensor will fix all my issues. He also said that the shop may also perform a software upgrade. So my car should be done by tomorrow evening.
Fingers crossed, let's see what happens. I will know tomorrow for sure about the work performed. I will post an update.

Finally got my car back yesterday. They said that they changed something in the steering column?. Here is what my receipt states:
1 61-31-9-111-997 SWITCH UNIT, STEERIN
FAULTY SZL MODULE. FOUND FAULTS STORED IN SZL: A85D, 951D. PER SI B 34 04 06, REPLACE SZL. R&R SZL AND PROGRAMMED VEHICLE WITH CIP 20.02. COMPLETED SZL REPLACEMENT IN CIP, CALIBRATED STEERING ANGLE AND CLEARED FCS. RECHKD---ALL OK.
Anyone has any more details to add as to what exactly was done, except for obvious ones. I know that now I have the new CIP, and the SZL is replaced. But what is SZL. What is 61-31-9-111-997 Switch Unit. What is SI B 34 04 06. Also, any ideas, why did this happen?

When is your production date? Mine is 4th week of Novemeber, 2005.

In recent discussions with my SA he disclosed that this SZL had a pretty high failure rate and was on national back order. Appears to be the same sensor in E90, E60, E63 series at least (I have not validated that via online parts list) but several people were having to drive thru this issue while the parts get ordered and come in.
