Are the vipers supposed to stay automatic all the time or until the car is still on?
Mine goes to the manual mode every time I turn off the car (no green light),
so when it rains I press the button for it to be automatic, does this make sense?

Yep. That's how they work. They are off, until you switch them on.

Is there something wrong with your "w" key or are you typing with a German accent?

Yes, the wipers "reset" every time the car is turned off. You'll have to push the automatic wiper button again after restarting, if you want your wipers back on. It's not like the automatic headlights, which you can leave on all the time.
