Hey does anybody know what is self leveling. It does sound self explanatory, but just to be sure does my 06 e60 550i come with it standard?..LMK I want to buy some lowering springs, and I am doing some homework. Also, open for suggestions... Thanks people..

You mean body roll stabilization?

Do you have Sport Pack? If you do, you have anti roll stabilization, which is basically a fancy word for self-leveling.

Roll stabilization reduces body roll during hard cornering by hydraulically "tightening" the anti-roll bars. Self leveling is a system where by the vehicle self levels to it's original height after you've loaded with stuff (ie. luggage, groceries, etc.). Self Leveling systems are usually air bags that lifts the suspension.

When you unlock the car or open the door, do you hear a buzzing sound? If you do, you may have a self leveling system.

Self leveling is for e61 wagons. We don't have that on E60 sedans.

+1 I was pretty sure that was for the wagon as well, however not all E61's have self leveling, which is where the confusion is when looking at lowering springs. However I belive the suspensions parts are almost the same between the 60 and 61, which is why the lowering springs would be the same, unless you have self-leveling!

Just a side note:

I don't think that buzzing sound is the leveling system. I looked into it once... read a few threads about it... and it seems there are many opinions on what that sound is. The best answer seems to be that it's the fuel pump priming for start-up. Not sure if that has been verified or not but it sure is a funny sound. People ask me about it all the time when I unlock my car.

it's the fuel pump or your throttle adjusting.
