I would go for 530i. It is the most balanced sport sedan. 550i and 545i are way too heavy in the front, which would definitely deteriorate the balanced handling feel, plus you wouldn't know how the previous owner drove the car. As far as 335i, it must be an excellent choice. If space is not an issue, you should go for it. But if you have a family and need a more spacious car and yet sporty, 5-series is the way to go. By the way, I don't like the fact 335i is heavier than 530i, since a small car is supposed to be lighter isn't it?

I sold my 550 and have an e90 335 on order. I drove the e92 335 and loved it! The 335 is more agile than the 5 series, it has near M3 performance (without the stagecoach ride I grew to dislike in my 3 years of M3 ownership), and near 5 series comfort and torque. I loved my 550, but it is more car than I need and I miss the sportiness of the 3 series. Hopefully I will keep the 335 for a few years.

I own a 5 series. Picked 5 over 3 for the size, however, drove a 330i and it was "on rails" going through curves and was more fun to drive than the 5 IMO. The 5 is still very nice, don't get me wrong. I picked 530 over used 545 or 550 because I wanted brand new, full warranty and wanted to get the deal done around the $50K mark.

I think the size of the driver also plays a role when making your choice. At 6' 4" 210 lbs, I won't be driving a 3 series any time soon....well maybe the convertible

My Ride: Standard:
05 530i A36w/ Beige interior: DVD/mp3 player,
Exterior: M-Tech, Breyton trunk spoiler , AngeliBright, HID 6000K foglight, 6000K headlight bulb, 19" M Double Spoke 167, Michelin PS2 245/35/19, 275/30/19, Hartget rep splitter
Performance: Bilstein PSS9, GroppeM intake, Supersprint pipes, ECU remap, Brembo front-380mm, back-345mm
first choice definitely goes to the 335, got to see how a BMW's twinturbo
feels like(0 to 100 in 4.8s)...must be fun to drive one of this toys.
second choice, used 545, you will definitely love the torque when you need it..
although it's well balanced, the 530 is for sure underpower, that's one thing i don't like about my car.. not picking up speed fast enough consider i had a C5 before

Which one and why? The reason for only three choices is because they are comparably priced. The only difference is the size, speed, and acceleration. I know, I know, you want other choices, but such is life . . . though you can discuss it.
I have go 525ia and thinking of changing to the twin turbo next year.

BUt I would wait for the 535i twin turbo when it comes out next year and there will be a face lift too.
335i OK but too small
