Why would someone buy a 530i? Styling and roomy? From my perspective, I bought a sedan knowing that I will only use the backseats about 0.1% of the time. Hence, for me, a small sedan such as the 335i will do just fine.

Then the E92 335i would be your car

My choice 335 = 4.8 sec to 60 mph. No 5-series short of M5 can touch it.

530 - underpowered, used 545/550 high chances to get buyback or lemon.

I would go for 530i. It is the most balanced sport sedan. 550i and 545i are way too heavy in the front, which would definitely deteriorate the balanced handling feel, plus you wouldn't know how the previous owner drove the car. As far as 335i, it must be an excellent choice. If space is not an issue, you should go for it. But if you have a family and need a more spacious car and yet sporty, 5-series is the way to go. By the way, I don't like the fact 335i is heavier than 530i, since a small car is supposed to be lighter isn't it?

I'd select a lightly used 545 or 550. My world ain't stopping because now theres a 3 series hitting 4.8 in the 0 to 60. The E60 has the perfect size and its interior feels upscaled and distinctive. Besides, IMHO it looks way better.

I'm impressed with the early news on the 335 and this really harkens well for the 535. That seems to be the best proposition, unless a direct injection turbo V8 arrives.

And thats all you need to know.

I voted used 545 0r 550. Reasons: 5 series over the 3 due to size. V8 over the 6 due to power.

Relatively speaking, the i6 TT has more power than the V8 though only tenths of a second.

The 545i has depreciated, but you have to really watch out for lemons and buybacks and previous owner misuses.

When the 535i does come out, I don't think BMW will offer a 530i? Is this correct? Maybe the 525i (US) but not a 530i. The 535i will probably be a tad slower than a 545i/550i.

I better not go around picking on 335i coupe or sedan now.
