I'm glad this thread was near the top. I just noticed a burned mark the size of a nickel, and couldn't figure out how the hell it got there. I don't smoke, so I figure I'd try the seat warmers. Sure enough, smelled burning seats and nearly burned my finger. Funny thing is, bringing in my car Monday for the seat mat sensor recall. Hopefully they'll replace the leather too

Did your dealer do it for free. My dealer is saying since it has been so long since the recall has come out they will only help me out such as splitting the cost.

dont know if your seat catching on fire and burning you to death is considered a safety issue, but check these out:

Hey guys:
We really don't need to have more than one thread to discuss the same issue, don't we?

This happened to my '04 and the dealer replaced the leather.. I also moaned and haggled enough that they replaced both the seat cushion and the seat back (the burned area was on the left "wing" of the sport seat back.) They will try and only replace the leather seat cover of the affected area. They will replace the entire portion (no patching or anything), but then you are left with either a new seat back cover and worn bottom cover or vice versa
They honored the recall just last november (when I got the car). I gues the previous owner either never used the seat heater or I got it just in time for it to burn up...

This happed to my fiance in her last car while she was on the free way. It burnt through her wool pea coat and wool skirt. She jumped up off her seat and rear ended someone. So of course my e60 has every option but cold weather package.
