Hey guys, please take a look at my earlier post ( at 7.30 AM today). You guys got sidetracked.

Does anyone know anyone who can make the seat go higher?

Thanks.

You should talk to the dealership. I know BMW modifies its cars for people with disablities for free. I am NOT saying you are disabled, but I bet making seats higher or lower may qualify under the same program.

Thanks for the response.
I did talk to them about it but they said it was a safety issue and that therefore they could not touch it.

Sounds to me like a safety issue if they DON'T do anything...

It is a question of what is more unsafe. If the driver is short and can't get the seat high enough then it is a safety issue. If BMW doesn't have a tested "block kit" to raise the seat tracks higher, then putting some spacers in may create a very dangerous condition in the case of an accident. Imagine if a spacer was installed and in a crash, excess torque loads snapped the seat track bolts, throwing the driver into the air bag or partially out a window. The problem in this scenario is that an untested modification can result in serious injury or death, while a driver that can't see well out the front window can choose not to drive (thereby avoiding a safety issue).

This is not what BigArt wants to hear, but I remember the same arguments being put forth by my local dealer when a friend of mine who is 4' 11" wanted to have the driver side air bag in her car disconnected. After alot of discussion with BMW Canada and their legal department, my friend signed a release, and BMW agreed to disconnect the air bag. I don't think BMW will be doing this without engineered "kit" to raise the seat track.

Thanks Grover. I know you are right about the safety issue but it is hard for me to believe that BMW hasn't heard this complaint from MANY MANY people. It is dumb that in a car of this ilk my wife needs to sit on a pillow.

And someone in their Marketing department is undoubtedly aware that people under about 5' 6" may just favor a different brand, if only for the seat.

I wonder if BMWNA would iisten.

Anyone know who I should ask for?

Hey BigartK,

Just checked your signature - how the heck can you afford all those wives ???? One in 1987, another in 1988, 1995, on and on it goes. Man have you been busy Me, I can hardly afford one. Although we do have great marrage (from her perspective) - I earn the money and she spends it - she thinks its a perfect arrangement. Just trying to keep up with one wife is hard enough without getting a new one every year or two...
