Has anyone come up with a good way to protect back seats from the base of an infant seat? When strapped in tight these seats dig into the leather. Can't be good.

When the few and far between cases arise where my son rides in my car, I have used a folded beach towel. This seems to allow the leather to be gently indented and it always comes back the next day. If you or your car is the kid taxi, I would suggest buying another car.

It's not the kid taxi, but I do love taking my baby boy to Amoeba records or the grocery store and don't want to mess up my fine Dakota interior.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
No implications meant, but BMW makes a great, slightly padded, rear seat protector to ward off pet damage. It stops nails/claws from getting at the leather and is easilly installed and removed. I have my leftover model from my E39 installed in mine, and while it is a tiny bit too narrow, it still does a great job for my 150# Newfy. (One on ePrey last week).
The new ones are about $275, but are more quilted/padded, and do not wrap over front headrests, as does the old one, so they might help your need.
Cheers,
Ray Hull

I've had a seat in my E39 for a long time with only a padded cabinet mat that you can buy in HomeDepot or Lowes. It's the ~1/8" foam mats that can be cut to size and looks like the same stuff they use to keep area rugs from sliding on hard wood floors. It did leave an imprint on the leather when I finally removed the seat but it was back to normal after a few days.

I had one seat bolted down with plenty of force in my E39 for years... it left minor indents; I'm not sure if they're gone as I sold it a few days after.
Regardless, they weren't large by any stretch of the imagination. That said, I'm going to go and pick up two of these this week.

I have used these things and they work very well. Only problem is that if you use them with a booster seat they can make it a bit of a pain to buckle the seatbelt. The mat always seems to be in the way.

The car seat protector from Prince Lionheart is the best. I attached a link below to Babies R Us where I purchased it. This is by far the best seat protector. It uses a semi hard seat surface that protects the seat bottom from being dimpled by the child seat, has openings for latch, has raised side on the seat bottom for bottle drippings or spills, a kick plate to prevent scuffing from shoes, and a semi hard seat back pad.
I have this in both of my cars and use it for both todler car seat and booster seat. Does not interfere with seat belt fastening. Provides awesome protection for the precious leather in the E60...absolutely, highly recommended!

use a towel that matches the color of your seats... i use black towel on my black leather in the 550, a tan towel on the tan leather in the X3 and my wife will kill me if i put the kid in the mini so i don't worry about that one too much.. but if i have to, i'd use a gray towel on the chocoal leather...
