Default Seat mat sensor issue\Recall - Need help

Hi All, I noticed a problem this morning. I started the car inside the garage, backed out to the driveway and my friend got into the front passenger seat but the "pass airbag off" light did not turn off. I noticed it and restarted the car and the light went off. Is this normal???
I never had any SRS malfunction warnings.

I found a thread from last year about a seat mat sensor recall on 06-07 E60s - NTSHA # 13V564. My car is 06 550i with comfort seats built on 1/2006 and should be covered under the recall but I have not recieved any letters from BMW and BMW recall website shows no open recalls based on my VIN.

What do I need to do?

I don't believe comfort seats are covered in the recall. I've got a 2006 530xi with comfort seats and last time I check it wasn't part of the covered list. I think the BMW website has the recall bulletin.

Ok, I misunderstood the wording on the NTSHA page about the recall, since it does say:

"Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 Series with standard seats, 5 Series with comfort seats, and Z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat."

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/...tsa_ids=13V564

Does this extended warranty help us or do I need to go pay them $1000 so my passenger air bag actually work?

Once upon a time, I had several errors from my mat and my service advisor said they'd "fix me up" if it kept happening. It didn't keep happening, so I don't know. It's worth trying and bringing the warranty info.

The OWS recall/extended warranty/WTF is confusing. I called BMWUSA 5-6 months ago after I bought my car used and the nice lady said it is in the VIN range. She registered me as owner so recall info would get to me.
I go to the BMWUSA site now and it shows no open recalls. The recall notice lists my car as in the covered group.

What gives BMW?

Same here. 04 545i & the site shows no recalls. Really? None...

Looks like, I may have been panicking over nothing, the pass bag light doesn't start to update its state until all of the systems have booted. I did a little experiment, I started the car, got out and got it in the passenger seat and the light did not react. After 30-40 seconds, bluetooth signal icon showed up on iDrive and a second later the passenger airbag off light turned off.

I need to do this experiment when the car is cold just to double check.

I do have that stupid issue in the summer when the seat mat sensor\seatbelt chime especially when I put my phone on the seat.

BMW Recall with extended warranty sucks. I had to have the Brake Booster Recall redone about a year ago after my brakes failed. BMW agreed to pay for the labor cost but wanted me to pay for the parts. After repeatedly tearing a new one to my service adviser, they finally fixed the brakes and charged me only $200 for booster and master cylinder @ cost.

Supposedly conditioning the seat leather helps soften the seat = less shrinkage.

Other solution is a seat belt buckle alarm cancelled connector to plug into the seatbelt. Like this:

I called BMW USA this morning and I am in the extended warranty coverage. That is now no mileage and 15 years. I think the wording of the recall info is just not clear is the real issue.

Take a look in your owners manual because it will explain how this light is suppose to behave. On my 08 the light is always OFF unless something in the seat is meeting the requirements. I heard that on pre LCI the light is always on when no one is in the seat as you describe. I had heard there are slight variations depending on which SBE you have.
