The problem isn't so much that you can't disable the chime, but rather that you need to be buckled before you even put the key in the ignition or it complains immediately. A 5 or 10 second delay would make it to my liking.

Huh? My car works exactly the opposite of what you describe.

The seat belt chime doesn't even start until you begin to drive off...

I thought of buying a seat belt buckle to get rid of the chime but the dealership dont sell the buckles alone... does any buckle fit?

Whats wrong with using post #7?

Ya doubt it'll work on a german car but I know what you mean... but weird thing is with all the F@&*&# nags on the lexus nav... one option inside the hidden accessory setting is to disable the seatbelt chime... Wont let me dial a number on the phone pad on the NAV screen when the car is moving... wont let me see Song title lists on the NAV screen when the car is moving... But will let us disable a seatbelt chime... WTF???

Hmmm. Mine is a June 2006 build 530xi. I have a fairly recent s/w version. Mine starts chiming immediately. As in, while I am still standing still in the garage. Maybe later s/w or they had a minor change to this area.

Hmm I wonder how many times the seat belt chimed before the Governor of NJ had his near deadly accident a few weeks ago when the Trooper was doing 91mph on the GSP. Buckle up and be safe and you won't have to listen to the chime or hear about another statistic.
cheers

If you don't buckle up you DEFINTELY won't have to listen to the chime or hear about another statistic.

You have a chance to become one!

Don't want to mess with anything...

Does any seat belt buckle fit or you strictly need an e60 buckle?

I don't have my 535xi(yet), but this is what I've done on several previous vehicles I've owned. Roughly locate where the chime(s) are, take off that dash/door panel. Find the chime(it's usually a circular thingy about an inch in diameter) and completely cover it using a high temp latex caulk.
It's worked like a charm for me. You will still probably hear it(if it's completely quiet in the cabin), but it will be a whisper not loud enough to irritate you.

I wonder if this is the same chime used to signal ALL OTHER exception conditions like door not closed, engine overheating, oil level low, service needed etc?
