Looking for some SatNav options for my new E60, a couple of weeks old. Is retrofit an option in the UK, what about SmartNav, anyone had any experience?

Tyke,
I've just got a Tom Tom Go 300. Bought on internet from Maplins for ?339. It seems pretty good so far. I've also downloaded all Speed cameras from Pocket GPS website. The TTG fits quite neatly om my E60 - see pics on page 6 of my photo album by clicking on my signature below.

Thanks for the reply.
Is the TTG wired in or battery powered?

I have a Treo 650. I'm planning on getting a Bluetooth GPS reciever for about $200 I can hide away in the car, plus TomTom Navigator 2005 software. With a dashboard mount I can use the Treo as a GPS navigator - voice prompt, the whole works. And it still can talk to the BMW at the same time so I can use the bluetooth phone features. I'm feeling better every day about having saved 2 grand on the factory nav.

Tyke,
My Tom Tom Go is not wired in as the internal rechargeable battery lasts 4 hours. The unit does come with a cigarette lead charger but I have not used it as I recharge at home. The GPS is inbuilt and therefore no need for external ariel.
Sorry about picture quality as the sun was shining directly at the unit.
Suggest you visit www.pocketgpsworld.com as they have free speed camera database and very useful forum.

I would personally say to get the Factory Retrofit. I like the clean look of the everything in the car.

I really wish it was available to the US. I'm not sure why it isn't and that makes me a sad panda.

I suspect even if possible a retrofit sat nav would be very expensive. Why is it when I can buy a portable satnav unit for ?339 BMW ( like other car manufacturers) want to charge exhorbitant amounts for options - same applies to leather seats ( do they really cost much extra to cloth!!), alloys, upgrade hifi etc.
