The dealer just called me in response to my inquiry about adding satellite radio to my 08 535i. Apparently $900 is the going rate. Is it just me or is that insane? Any experience/thoughts are appreciated.

I agree. Besides I had satellite radio for quite a while and discovered, well, it sucked. Besides Howard Stern there really isn't any real reason to have it. The music channels are commercial free (most of them), but they still play the same 10 songs over and over again. When I got rid of my Jeep to get my E60 I decided to cancel my Sirius subscription (I had already paid for 5 years) and just get an iPod, that way I could truly listen to what I want when I want to listen to it.

i had sirius in the car. but canceled it because i too just hooked an ipod. but with my jl clean sweep it seems the system only sums and works the signal for the fm and cd, not for my ipod. the fm/cd music seems to have better midbase and blend then the ipod. the ipod is obviously cleaner but it just sounds diffrent. was thinking bout putting the sirius back in since i already have a portable unit in my 18 wheeler itll only cost 5 more a month. they do tend to play a revolving list of songs and introduce a few new ones every few weeks. i never listen to the fm in the car i dunno if its my antenna or what but theres NEVER a clean reception

For a different viewpoint, I have it and I love it.
If you are at all interested in interesting current events such as BBC World,CNBC,NPR or CBC Radio 3, it is very good.
Also if you have any children in the car, the Kids Place Live is very popular with my 6 year old
The best part is, NO COMMERCIALS

Radio in the car, whether is regular or satellite has become completely useless since the aux for iPods was installed in cars. If your car has AUX and you still pay for that crappy satellite radio, 1. you're an idiot or 2. u have some channel that you can't "LIVE" without (I know it sounds gay, bc it is) or 3. You just a baller, and have money to blow . Once again this is just my opinion guys, don't bash me.

I'd take an iPod with a bunch of music over satellite radio in my car any day of the week. SAT radio sound quality sucks - HD Radio is a better oprtion and its free.
And $900 is a ripoff - I think the option was only $500 if you ordered it built into the car from the factory.

I bought mine and installed myself and left the dealer to only connect the wires under the seat and program it. They called after about three hours and said I bought the wrong unit and they can't make it work. They can install the correct unit and program for $500.00. Then I reminded them about the connection under the seat and they checked into it and all of a sudden they were able to make it all work. Costt for me was 120.00 for the install and programing in Charleston, SC. I did have a Stealer near my home tell me 200 - 400 just to program, so maybe check around a little.
