Satellite Radio add
#1
Hey,
Anyone get satellite radio added as an option to their car after purchase? I'm lining up for the addition through a dealership this summer, assume it's only a reprogram on the iDrive unit to activate it as an option (and hopefully get RID of that "WB" B.S. for t.v. stations or whatever that is...)
Was going to go with the iPod integration but I think I'm coming around to satellite radio after all...
Experiences anyone?
thx,
jfk
btw, the car is an 06 530Xi

I did it.
Retrofitted myself, my car has SA693 option (AFAIK std as of '07 model) so what I bought the module from Garry Romani (BMW of Newport, RI) and mounted in the trunk then plug the wires and have the dealer do the iDrive enable programming to show up in the menu (you still have W as far as activation you can do it yourself via phone w/ Sirius.
Since the module uses MOST fiber optic that tie into the car iDrive system "extending" the fiber loop is a bit tricky since you have to do it on the fiber jumper block.

There's at least one person here who successfully installed the factory Sirius module, etc. without SA693 installed.

There's been a ton of threads about adding Sirius since early on, it wasn't available at all on early build cars with Navigation. We spent a ton of time patiently waiting for BMW to come out with a fix and/or trying to figure out what "latest" story to believe. If you do a search using the following terms (not in the Google search) minus the quotation marks: "+sirius +retrofit" you'll get a ton of information...
