Thanks guys! I posted in this same thread as a guest, but figured I would take the plunge.

I usually hang out over at bimmerfest, but now include e60 in my 'regular rotation.'

Lenk, any new updates?

I was at the dealership yesterday and they said it can't be done w/out the sat prep already installed. I REALLY want sirius and wanted to know if it's possible.

My SA actually said that Sirius is not available if you have iDrive. Service manager was able to correct her though. (even though she didn't believe me)

Even if the fiber optic cable has to be run through the vehicle and also to the shark fin, not having sat prep should at worst mean that the unit would have to be mounted closer to the i-drive and a hockey puck antenna would have to be used. It just doesn't make any sense that it absolutely cannot be done.

I agree that the additional antenna would be needed but I don't think it's as easy as you think in mounting the receiver. You don't just plug something into "iDrive," you insert something into the cars communications bus. Whether you tap into the bus in the trunk or under the dash, it makes no difference.

I don't know the exact issues but I'll speculate that tapping into the bus is the hard part. I imagine that it might be possible that in the future there will be a way to do this (with an additional antenna) I just don't know how long or how difficult it will be...

Guess I don't get it. If Sirius works on an antenna with the Sat prep kit installed, shouldn't you be able to aquire this antenna on a non-sat preped car? And if it's just something that is plugged into the existing antenna. . . can't you just plug it into it? (having read the earlier post about the bus)

Just figured you wouldn't have to add that retarded Sirius antenna.
