Actually I have conducted extensive research and plan on ordering the parts to do my own retrofit tommorrow (I do not have the factory prep). The necessary parts for the wiring should be about $100.

You basically need one fiber optic cable and two antenna cables, the power plug is already present for the phone booster. The system in our car is a network. All you need to do is unplug the fiber optic cable going out of the TCU and going to the CD changer. The you connect the fiber optic cable that is purchased from the TCU to the Sirius unit. The fiber optic cable from the TCU to the CD changer is then attached from the output of the sirius unit to the CD changer. ergo you have a complete circle to the network. I am betting that a fiber optic wire exists and can be ordered from the TCU to Sirius unit (as this is part of the factory prep).

Then you run the two antenna wires to the shark fin into the trunk (also presumably part of the factory wiring kit) and use the power cable alread existing. If one of the connectors is wrong they can be ordered from BMW and changed.

THis will be my thanksgiving weekend project and will be coded on Monday assuming the wiring is succesful

I will update upon completion. Wish me luck!

Good luck Lenk, let us know how it goes. I don't doubt you can install an aftermarket unit and get it power or even connected to the network, but there is a software install from BMW required for the unit to be integrated w/ the iDrive. If you can make this connection so as to avoid the lower quality FM modulator option, let us know.

On 2005 E60's if Navi is not ordered you don't even get Navi Prep (Menu and voice buttons)! <_<

My 11/03 production had'em!

That may be true, I was simply asnwering the question of what Sat Prep was.

But you're not going to have the BMW software for iDrive integration? I'm confused, which isn't hard to do by the way... You've got Sat prep, you're using the BMW Sirius unit, but you're doing the install yourself, right? The only piece missing is the software. Or are you not going to integrate w/ iDrive?

Lenk,

do you have nav? I think that in MY04's there was a problem with nav and sirius where they made a harness change in order for the two to play together. So even with the sat prep (which I dont have), it does not work. You think it will?

To All:

I have no nav and no sat prep. kit but intend on using the BMW sirius reciever. The sat prep kit comprises three sets of wires: fiber optic connector to connect to most system, power and antenna. The power and the antenna are easy to retrofit. The only problem is the fiber optic conector. I believe the fiber optic connector is merely a fiber optic wire that loops through the most bus conncetor in the back left wheel well but need to look at a prepped car to verify this or a picture/illustration of the installed sirius receiver to ee how the fiber optic connector is done. I can't find an illustration of the wiring of the sirius reciever on BMW TIS. I thought the receiver was connected in network from from the phone TCU to the sirius reciever back p to the cd changer, but I now believe it is just looped through the MOST fiber optic bus connector in the back left.

Any info would solve the problem and would be the key to the puzzle.

Sorry Lenk, no answers, but I am VERY interested in how this works for you. Possibly even write up a DIY for us?

I'm in the same boat, no NAV, no SAT Prep, but want sirius integrated.

Thanks!
Craig
