Hi,
Does the Sat Nav DVD player also play Audio CDs - my dealer told not to put anything in the DVD player as it would affect the iDrive - so I havent tried it.
thanks

I haven't tried it b4 too. You may try it out and tell me what's the outcome. I'm curious too. Okay?

I had a loaner 2004 545. It didn't have the nav disc so I put a music CD in and it worked fine.... No troubles in the 11 days that I had it.

More dealer BS, to the point that if you look in your list of sources under CD (assuming you have the 6 disc changer), you will see

DVD CD CD1 CD2........

DVD is greyed out when you have the Nav disc in, but becomes available for selection when you add a CD.

I have the business Sat Nav in my 530i. After I used the Sat Nav in my local areas for a while, I took it out and had been playing music CD's in the last two weeks. The Sat Nav appeared to have load a section of the map into the car memory so I can still navigate around without putting the DVD back in.

I don't have a CD changer.

About your post, this has been covered somewhere else - I hope that they'll upgrade this (the software) so that you can play DVD-A discs .

I don't remember (or certainly didn't know anyway) that there were plans for BMW to make the drive play DVD-Audio (DVD-A) discs, surely that would be a whole other ball game over and above just getting the drive to play "normal" DVD Video discs with their Dolby Digital (and DTS soundtracks?) - playing high resolution (192KHz / 24bit) DVD-A discs is something that the majority of home DVD players don't do (at least in the UK), so expecting the car to do it seems a bit far fetched to me. To be honest, given the harsh sound environment of the car, it also seems a bit pointless - I'd be happy enough if it would play the "lower quality" Dolby Digital layer in proper 5.1, as found as a backup on the vast majority of DVD-Audio discs.

On a similar note, I wonder how long it will be before we see multichannel SACD capable players / systems as factory fit in car. Are there even any aftermarket SACD in-car players?
