When you copy a newer version of the sat nav dvd it seems very sluggish in operation. Has anybody else had this problem.

Maybe you should consider purchasing a new copy instead of copying...

It's common sense to back up your original and use a copy.

It also depends on what medium you have made your "backup". DVD +RW will be slower than DVD -R, though you can reuse the disc...

Write speeds and read speeds of recordable media are not related.

There is nothing, AFAIK, to indicate that READING rewriteable media (RW) should be slower than recordable media - whether it is PLUS or DASH format.

well slower write speeds do help sigificatly, and improve the read performance as their is a less probability of error when writing at a slower speed....
also even though there is nothing to indicate DVD-RW are slower than dvd-r, not all drives are capable of reading DVD-RW properly and to be honest there is nothing to indicate that our drives are compatible with dvd-r, +r -rw +rw , i think they all work but i dont think that the manual says anything about dvd-rw... so my best suggestion is to go with the DVD+R or DVD-R and a slow write speed and see if that helps,, also use some good quality DVDs..

I know that I've had problems reading back up nav on DVD-R (some times it can be read most of the time it can't, tried multiple DVD-R discs) and it's all good when switched to DVD+R (recommended by a friend).

It's all hearsay.

Unless you know the brand of drive used in the e60 you can't start talking about compatability with particular media. Modern drives play everythng.

As for writing at slower speeds. About three years ago that was a potential issue. Drives and media have moved on so much now that this no longer figures.

People pick up a mantra and chant it without understanding the chant.
