I dropped my car of this morning to have the Sat radio installed. The dealer told me it would take between 2 and 3 hours. He just called to let me know that the Software needed to be updated to recognize the radio. Well that has me perplexed since I ordered the car with Sat prep package and just took delivery 2 weeks ago. He said the update takes 5 hours. Is this right?

I don't think they're saying that the current version doesn't support Sat. I "think" what it means is that when the software load for your car was prepped, it didn't include Sat in the audio package. I "think" that they put all of the stuff you have into the software prep, then download it to the car. It's not quite plug-and-play.

The factory prep you bought was the wiring harness for the Sat receiver.

So, the install takes about an hour, then they update the software load for the car to include recognition and functionality for the Sat option.

I had my sat radio installed a couple of weeks ago and it took them half a day to do it. Reprogramming was not as simple as they had thought it was going to be.
It is great having Sirius - you will enjoy it!

This may sound crazy, but cab you still get regular radio once the satilite radio is installed? Also, I'm currious as to what people are paying BMW dealers for this. Thanks

Yes, Sirius will be another option like CD, so you still get old fashioned FM and AM radio. As for the price, I think installed is around $575 (parts + install), but that includes the first year free of Sirius.

yup that's what I paid. Plus don't forget the $75 for the Sat prep too. I had XM in my other car and loved it. Great quality sound and lots of variety.

sdpike, did you get yours working yet?

I'm still reluctant to believe that anyone has successfully installed Sirius on a car with Navigation...

Are you guys serious? (sorry no pun intended........)
Has this been an issue for those who had Sirius installed at the factory?
I'm ordering a 545 with Nav and Sirius...... and still have time to cancel one or the other.
