Being that the car isn't that old it would be a low chance of the shocks being shot. Tires wear funny on alot of BMW's and always have for years and years. I don't think there is a more pickyer car when it comes to tires then BMW. Seems like just the slightest thing a hair off puts a whole kink in the system.

+1 on Tire Rack recommendation. Lot of good info and reviews. Also some good closeout prices on some tires. Being in NC depending on how often in your part NC it gets below freezing and light snow you may want to look at a All season sport tire over a pure summer sport tire. Unless your very hard driver chances are you'll never notice a difference in the two. Summer tires can get rock hard in colder weather and are almost worthless in just the littlest of snow.

Waiting for the pics.........
Tire Rack has no info or reviews on Toyo Tires, anyone here know why... i know they had them a little while back...

Notice how the roof on the neighbor's garage looks like some sort of sunroof on the car!

Did you Bimmerlust know that Santa is really from Finland, really. Check this out!

Answers you your Q's:

A 1 - Hard driven ones. Keep always the tire pressures at max recommed (see the manual)

A 2 - You should get Michelin PS 2's non RF's. They are more expensive but in the long run the money is worth it

A 3 - Get all four ones new! No one wants old nor new RF's

After four new tires your car will feel once again like new and this is a Christmas promise.

I think there are a few folks from our area including Richard In NC. I think a meet & drive would be a lot of fun, but where would you go? Charlotte doesn't really have any good roads to drive on. You'd just about about have to go to Boone to get the kind of driving that the California people on this board talk about. Question for you, who are you using for service work & are you happy with the service dept? I'm trying to decide where to go as Flow, Crown, Hendrick and Hendrick in Hickory are all about the same distance for me. Input appreciated!
