Thanks for taking the time to put together a nice post.

I'm on the fence right now about pulling the trigger on a 550i lease. Part of me is still debating color, but the other half is a bit nervous about letting go of my 740iL. Its a gorgeous car, and I just love it. But, with only 11 months of CPO coverage left, I'm a little nervous about the future repair potential.

I had a question for one of the posters who mentioned that the 550 isnt great in the winter without special rubber. Are you talking about "serious snow", or does a light dusting cause you angst?

I had a G35 coupe about 3 years ago, and the car was nearly impossible to drive with even a dusting of snow. We dont get much snow down this way, but I want a car that can handle an inch or two without concern....

Very merry Christmas to you!!! Have many performance & mod. years with your new cool ride!!!

I still love my 545I and my new P-car. I told my wife that if 2007 is another great year for me I will get a F-355 for kick.

My thoughts on the M5. The 550 is a much more comfortable car for an everyday drive. Granted, the M5 is faster, but only by about a second. Why put up with the harsh ride, abrupt shifts, and poor gas mileage for a small increase in speed that you will rarely if ever use? I haven't raced anyone in years, and don't find myself drag racing at stoplights.

Then there is the image thing. In the M5 you appear to be a show off. I don't want clients thinking that I waste money, because then they may feel that I am wasting their money, too. The 550 is a responsible choice that does not draw too much attention.

The interesting thing is that our local dealer has two M5's and one M6 that have been sitting for quite some time, yet they are sold out of their 550 alotment through April 07.

You know that saying about the grass being greener on the other side? Enjoy your 550, and go lease a very nice winter car with the money you saved by not buying the M5.

Haven't had the 550 in the snow yet (don't plan to), but the 545 sport with the stock tires was a disaster in ANY type of frozen coating. You need to have a winter car, and drive that winter car any time there is even the slightest chance of snow.

Thanks for the feedback. I love hearing about the differences between the 545 and the 550 since I'll be joining that club this spring.

(Isn't it funny how this board has evolved from all of us first-time E60 owners to many of us who are coming off of our three-year leases? It should be fun over the next six months or so...)

I'm a 5 series guy all the way. I've had a '97 528 sport stick, a '99 540 sport automatic, an '02 530 sport stick (awesome car, never should have let it go), an '05 545 sport automatic, and currently my new '07 550 sport automatic.

I wouldn't be caught dead owning anything with a 3 pointed star hood ornament.

What is the proper break in?
I like the way everyone congratulated you on the car but ignored your sensible request
