If you're thinking about making the switch, I say go for it. The improvement in ride quality is astounding.
I went for Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres + a BMW spare wheel kit.

My Ride: 2005 BMW 545i, Titanium Silver. Bridgestone 760s on Weds Bavaria II 18" wheels, standard sport pack size. Sport, AT. Latest job - NGK Iridium IX plugs installed.
This was more dramatic for me because my car went from 17" RFT Winter (M3) 225/45-17 tires to 18" staggered UHP summer (RE760). Like night and day.
