To Runflat or not to Runflat

My Ride: 2005 530i, SMG, Silver Grey, Black leather w/anthracite trim, Premium, Sport, Cold, Rear Fold Down Seats, Rear Seat Heating, Xenons. Mods: 545i chrome grill, Euro Red Reflectors and 20% window tint. Coming Soon: Dual LCD monitors w/DVD and Subwoofer install.
I'm replacing my runflats....terrible wear and excessive noise. Since my 2005 530i has a spare (17" donut type spare) I don't "have" to use a runflat tire. (I'd heard some 5 series cars were coming without a spare)
Question is: Should I stay with a runflat tire (Bridgestone) or go with something else....(Michelin Pilot or similar)? Are the wheels designed for Runflats? It snows a few times a year where I live and an All Season tire would be nice. Michelin recently introduced the Pilot A/S (Ultra High Performance according to TireRack) and that sounds like a nice fit for me...anyone have similar experiences when looking for replacement tires?

I personaly ditched the run flats a few months ago. I was looking at the PIlot Sport A/S as well but decided to go with the Pirelli P Zero Nero A/S. Better bang for the buck according to the tirerack salesperson. I've been pleased with the ride and the price was right. Good luck.

I have a 04 530i and running 245/40/18 Toyo Proxes 4's and they are great, no road noise, excellent wear, etc.

I asked my dealer about this issue when I ordered about a month ago, and as far as he knew, there were no changes.
I hope you are correct. I am picking up a 545 in April, and all of the Dunlop stories trouble me.

[/quote]That's great if true, however, my local dealer has a lot of cars with Dunlops. Any idea when they stopped using Dunlops? My car is in production right now.

My new 535D delivered last Friday and buit week 6 is equiped with Goodyear NCT5 in 245/45/17 W (wheel 122 style).
I have only 700 km experience by cold weather (-2/+2?): they are very silencious and comfortable on eaven road tarmac. On bad road (with joints) they are lacking filtration. Maybe it is due to the very high pressure (2,4 and 2,7) recommended by BMW. It is at least 400 gramm more than a Mercedes with the same tyre dimension.
