Recently, about a 1,500km ago, I took the plunge and purchased a new set of tyres. And, in spite my bravado in previous post I stayed with the run flats.
I thought others may find the following observations of interest when considering their next tyre options.
Some background, the Dunlop were OEM supplied on purchase of the car they lasted 26,000km. The Continentals are SC2's (the SC3s are not available in Australia in RFT format). I did not have any geometry changes between sets of tyres.
Noise - the most appreciated difference was how quiet the SC2s are. The Dunlops were so noisy that I took them to the SA several times complaining about them, to no effect.
Wet handling - much improvements in grip and general compliance with the SC2
Dry handling - at the edge the SC2 are superior on fast corners they remain neutral all the way and testing on a corner posted at a recommended 40kmh I get 10kmh faster than Dunlops at 100kmh before 4 wheel drifting occurs (on the Dunlops I got understeer at 90), slow corners the Dunlops win having more direct turn in.
Braking - SC2 far superior - I get much less interference from DSC
Change of direction - Dunlops are superior, being more agile.
Ride - the SC2 not as stiff over rough roads
Alo, the SC2s do not tram track.

I had the Dunlops on my old 530 and liked them. I especially liked the peace of mind of run flats. My 550 has the Continentals and they definitely do handle better than the Dunlops. If they made run flats for my 550 I would opt for them. I would sacrifice a bit of handling for peace of mind. From other posts I've read, most members dislike the Dunlop RFTs.
