run flats

My Ride: 05' Bmw 530i Sport Package
So I had a tire blow out this past weekend, riding on a donut right now. I called the guys at discount tire, to inquire bout prices for the 245/40-18 (93w) tire and they said its a run flat and cost more then regular tire. I was informed that I must get a run flat and if I bought a regular tire it would ride and feel different. I want to confirm with you guys what tire should I buy? I'm not familiar with run flats. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks

Personally, I would stay with original fit tyres and would therefore buy that brand.
Unless, as the previous poster said, you want to go non-run-flat, then you have to change the whole set. Probably not as expensive as you might think. ie; all four standards tyres, cost the same as two run-flats (rough price guide)

Ive been running on Potenza RFT for months now and all of you that dont like them are cry babies lol
they are quiet, smooth and ive never had any issues with them
id stick with the rft's for now and just get a replacement

Ever since I switched to my Hankooks I'm loving the ride. I thought switching from 18" to 19" would make my ride a little harder, but the opposite is true. The funny thing is I had runflats but still had a spare tire too.

My Ride: MY06 Silver-Grey 530i, Grey Leather, Sports Package, Steptronic, Premium Package, Satellite Radio, Bluetooth (Motorola V551), Llumar Platinum Tint.
I say get rid of the run flats! Run Flats tend to wearout after 20K miles anyway. Non RFTs are smoother riding. I replaced the Potenza RFTs on my car with Potenza RE960 non-run flat and the ride is great. The only issue I am having is my car tends to drift to the right a little on straight roads. BMW Service Dept says its due to the tires. I think that's a baloney.

As far as I know ABS and DSC is configured differently in cars equiped with run flats. You also need the spare which I thing You do not have (not sure though) However I hate run flats as most of the forum members + it should not be repaired it needs to be replaced. They're louder and ride is harsh. Anyway I would replace them with non RFTs if only bank account can handle it
