Since Run Flats have become standard, how many people out there have changed their Run Flats soon after they got the car.

Do Run Flats provide better road grip/handling?

No!

They are harder and less comfy.

The only plus is the run flat feature itself.

+1

I find them also a heck of a lot more prone to tramlining than non RFT. When the time comes to change my current set, I'll be replacing them with non-RFTs.

The 245/40 R18 Dunlop Sport on my new car are RFT?s and they are really light years better than the previous run flats i have driven!

There is no tramlining at all now, apparently the LCI 5er now has 4th gen RFT?s which are much softer than before.

I had 17" 1st generation RFT?s on my E91 that I traded in for the 530i, the ride in my 3 series was like rolling around on wooden wheels in comparison to the 5er.

I was going to start a new thread on this. I drove a 535i today, Yes the Twin turbo engine is very sweet and all, but what surprised and impressed me the most was the ride. Same wheels and Dunlop RFs as my MY04 545i, but what a diffrence! The ride was compliant and just superb. And to verify that I wasn't imaging anything, I drove the same pavement in my car right afterwards.

My guess is that BMW have been approaching this from two angles. Not only are they all over the tire manufacturer to make a better tire but with each model year they have been tuning the suspension to handle the RFs.

I must be more the better tires we are seeing-wouldnt "tuning" a suspension for crappy tires be just pretty much softening the ride which would not be acceptable on the sport package for example?

Life is ALL so relative. My 5er-07 with runflats rides like a dream but it is my first bimmer and first luxury car-this is coming from an 02 chec tracker. That is why I have never been a window shopper type-once I know, and especially experience something much better than what I have-mine no longer seems all that great.

I did testdrive a E92 335i with 18" RF Potenzas and the car was not tendy to tramlinging at all.

Compared to the same roads with my E60 and old RF Dunlops the differance was huge.

Should we understand that new BMW chassi and new RF tyres are developed now to a point,
that they should have been in first place?

For non-LCI's the non-RF's is the right choice.

PS. A new car with new tyres drives always better...
