Stupid question I guess:

What exactly is so bad about tires rubbing?

I really dont know. Love how the 20's look, but I am a little confused by the discrepency of members who claim their tires rub and those who dont.

Is rubbing more an issue of discomfort or are there geniune safety concerns?

hello and welcome

rubbing to me is a safety issue...when the rim is oo big and or the car is low.. inner or ouer part of the tire rubs into the tire well or fenders....constant rubbing would jeopordize the integrity of the tire and in time can blow ou the tire and also bend or chip the fender exterior finish... this is based on my experience..can anyone else confirm...ericd

Yup. VERY stupid question. If you have rubbing, you will damage body and tire and likely have very UN-BMW handling and suspension traits.

Next question....

When your tyres rub on the inside, the usually don't rub on the wheel house, but on your suspension strut.
I have seen dampers break from rubbing, yes, the strut broke before the tyre.

On the outside, the rubbing between wheel arch and tyre constantly takes out a little of your tyre. You do the math yourself.

Choose correct offset and wheel/tyre combo and there will be no rubbing at all on 20"
