Here in Jersey we can't pump our own and the other day the first English speaking gas attendant I have had in a while mentioned that the rubber around the filler was coming loose. Does anyone know how to fix?

For the OP, are you talking about the rubber gasket on the cap? If so, the cap is less than $20 and a DIY replacement...

Yeah, Jersey has a law where self serve gas stations are not allowed.

OK, if the seal had gone bad, air would get into the tank and you would get warning messages from the car, Increased Emissions as I recall. Happened on my old 545 when the gas cap seal had gone bad...
Don't see a part for what you describe, will have to take a look at my car tomorrow when it's light out.

I might have a similar problem. The rubber between the filler tube and the body is breaking down. The gas cap and gasket between the cap and the filler are fine - so there aren't any warning messages. I haven't done anything about it yet. I'll mention it next time she goes to the dealer. I don't have any idea of why it's happening.
