I was outside in the rain trying to loosen my handbrake, it had been dragging slightly since the garage adjusted it. So you can imagine how pleased i was to see a nail in the tyre when i took the wheel off, it was pretty close to the sidewall. No garage would atempt to fix it at all, I am total gutted as the tyre has loads of tread left on it and i wasnt looking to spend money on the car at the moment. I managed to source a new tyre for ?190 fitted, so i decided to leave it for now.

Now the good bit, I decided to buy a new set of M5 style alloys with new tyres. For just over the price of 2 1/2 new tyres i have a new set of wheels with NON Runflat tyres , I wanted rid of the runflats anyway because i hate the ride with them on the car. So at least now i have 4 spare wheels if i get a puncture . Just need to remember to carry a trolley jack and wheel brace now.

Any excuse for a mod.......

I'm looking forward to gettng rid of my RFT's too. I want to get every penny out of them though.

Hopefully sometime this summer they will be replaced.

I am too.....but it will be a bit longer. I found a nail in each back tire, and the dealer slapped on new tires covered under the tire hazard warranty @ $1200
I had 14k miles on them and was looking forward to getting some non rft's...in due time I guess

Excellent reason to get rid of the RFT's. Have I ever mentioned that RFT's suck?????

I wondered about the tire warranty... I am always offered it but i never got them... So if you get a nail they'll just give you a new tire?

I think he has his tires insured then! No way will warranty cover tires!

On a plus though i have 3 spare good tyres if i ever need new tyres, the only drawback is they are runflats.

The biggest problem with runflats is that you always feel like there is something wrong with your car, the drive is not smooth. I cant wait to try my car without the horrid RFTs, I am expecting a smoother ride without them.

I know that Goodyears policy is that they would replace a runflat tire if the puncture was to close to the sidewall to be properly patched from the inside of the tire. I had runflats on a corvette and picked up a nail, Goodyear replaced this tire for free because it had more than 50% tread remaining and it could not be repaired (I had no extra roadhazzard insurance). Depends on the individual policy but yes. I have it on my wife's X5 which has the run flats and we've had three tires replaced. You pay for the replacement and then file a claim, receiving a check a couple of weeks later...
