My Ride: 07' 550i sport; Sapphire Black/Auburn; sport package; steptronic; navigation with R.T.T.I.; heads up; cold weather package; Logic-7; BMW MOST ipod kit; Motorola V3 snap-in adapter; rear heated seats and rear shades; anthracite headliner; sirrius sat. radio; M-aero kit; OEM style 166 Wheels with 245/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear Michelin PS2s.
Here's the hypo: You're taking a 7 mile commute from the burbs into the city. You can go highway or backroads. Highway is congested and stopped for only part of the way (and so a few black triangles show on the display). Here's my question: Other than looking at the screen and taking a guess, how do you determine a route around traffic. Sounds simple, but consider this...if your nav is in dynamic route-fastest route, it may still be faster to sit in traffic for 1 1/2 miles than to take the back roads. Also, shortest route doesn't help if the highway is more direct either. What I'm getting at is that there really is no "avoid traffic at all costs" mode right?

Make sure you have Dynamic Route checked off in the Destination Menu. You can select both Highway and Dynamic Route. Dynamic Route will automatically steer you away from the traffic.

"there are traffic problems on your route" - no rerouting taking place, just advice
"the traffic situation has changed, route is being recalculated" - a reroute avoiding a severe delay
AFAIK there is no way to manage these two types of statement/outcome independently.
