My Ride: 2004 545i 6 spd Sports Package | NAV | PDC | Logic 7 | BT retrofit | SW V13.3
Mine does not go away completely either. There are always about 3 lines above the red line. I think this is normal.

Also, the lines are not an indication of a rev limiter as noted in a previous post.
Think of it more as a "recommended" red line. If you floor it, you will experience the real rev limiter (while the engine is still cold). I haven't done it myself but I have seen it done before. :'(

When engine if fully warmed up, 3 white lines continue to be displayed on my car. From previous thread a few months ago this is normal. It appears different engine models have different number of lines displayed. Again from previous thread, most of the 530i's mentioned show 3 lines when warm.

They are just all gone when the engine is off.
