My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Question

Today, I discovered that my hood badge roundel has suddenly gone silver/blank on me. Is the colored badge adhered (like a decal) or enameled on that base?

I walked over to another 5 in our club lot and it appears that it may be enameled, but I don't understand how it all went away so fast (car wash last week?), but left behind some traces of blue and white and the embossed outline and letters.

Any experience in replacement?
Thanks,
Ray

Ive seen them fade before. Once the clearcoat is off the undercoats go quicky. Your dealer will have replacements. Or get it from this guy

The whole thing pops out and you pop a new one on... theres 2 pegs underneath... "Blank" When I read it sounds like someone nicked it...

just replaced my front one last month, I could see the plastic edge come up and new it was down hill from there. Bought replacements from the dealer 12 bucks, tricky part is to not scratch or marr the paint when you remove the old one. I used a flat blade srewdriver wraped with tape, and a wash cloth under it for leverage once you get one side up you are good. Another way and to avoid any paint accidents is to drive a screw directly in the center of the old roundel and pop it out like that. Just make sure you don't go to far with the screw or you could go through the hood any scratches though would be under the new emblem

The emblems are some type of decal. I had one peel off one of my E39 cars once and the dealer told me it's pretty common. They just pop off the old base (where the decal used to stick to) and pop a new one on...
