I'm with BMW of North America, LLC. I've passed this message on to a BMW NA Customer Relations Representative who will be in touch with you soon.
Now hopefully it does not take them 3 months to contact you...

Im impressed!!! I will be even more impressed when I get contacted and the problem is resolved.
It is an annoying problem and does not seem like something that should happen when starting up a $68K+ automobile's engine.
Please keep us posted on any developments.

I am very interested in what result you get from this contact at BMW NA. I have the exact same problem and have had from new in December 2005. I have not had Progman 23.XX installed. This is supposed to have some update for DME, but nothing is listed regarding this in Progman 23.XXXwrite-up as a fault that is addressed by it.

Well everyone I got a call yesterday from BMWNA disussing my problem that I had posted here. The representative told me to call my service department and schedule my car to have cip 23 installed. He said that this should take care of my rough start situation. He gave me his name and direct tel. # if i need any further assisatance. I will be scheduling an appointmant for the recall and this cip update today. I will post results when I get the car back. I have to say that I am impressed with this kind of feedback from BMWNA and also verry impressed with these forums

I was upgraded to CIP23 on the 30th and it definitely improved the cold engine start issue. I wouldn't say it's perfect but much much better....
My '06 550 did this, dealer couldn't find the problem, so contacted BMW NA. They were advised by the "BMW service gods" to change the lifters....3 weeks in the shop.....and did not solve the problem. I am running the original CIP (not sure which version). I am afraid to upgrade as everything else works great. I have just accepted the 10 seconds of rough idle as part of life.....until I upgrade to the V10

Hey there! I too was experiencing this issue. Only on the 1st start of the day, and for me since I only drive the car 1-2 a week it was noticeable.
I got CIP 23 aka PROGMAN 23 last monday and the start is now not as bad as before, an improvement, but not 100%...... katheikia let us know how yours turns out.
