Not a 535 but had a somewhat similar issue early on with my 2008 550. Started and the engine seemed rough, quickly got on the interstate and got an engine malfunction warning, the engine lost power and was running very rough. Got off the interstate at the next stop and shut it down for a couple of minutes. Restarted and has run fine ever since. Given the reliance on numerous computer systems in the E60, I can only assume some engine management software didn't load correctly at start up and was corrected by the shut down/restart. Monitor for a while and someone suggested in another thread, keep your cellphone or any other camera handy to take a picture of any message that pops up on the iDrive should it happen again...

You can see from my sig what I currently have.

I have 23,xxx miles on it now.

I haven't had any issues, BUT, as you live up North here, I would HIGHLY recommend, even now, running your gas down to where the light comes on, and then pouring in a bottle of HEET water remover (the red bottle), and filling up with premium.

Over the winter, I had what I can only call "stumbling". Started right up, but on constant throttle, would get a pulsing sensation. Put in the dry gas and all was well with my world. I don't know what they put in the gas in the winter up here, or if it is that the engine is THAT sensitive to small amounts of condensation in the gas, but the dry gas cured many ills. I started pouring a bottle in about every third fill up.

Give it a go.
I actually think that you don't need dry gas

The 535 now has over 60,000 miles and has had many issues:

Fuel injectors, vanos, and carbon.

That said it has never stranded me and has been trouble free for over two years. It still drives great (like new) and I love it.

I got the Engine Malfunction Reduced Power recenly. It was intermittant. I noticed it came on after I had made any abrupt acceleration. When it did come on it would stay on until the engine was turned off. It was a pain, as I was not able to read the Navigation arrival time. I called up my dealer after about 2 weeks of this happening, and was told to take it in. When I took it in, the fault was not active, but they gave me no hassle. I dreaded thinking I was hit by the HPFP failures! It ended up being the Turbo Vacuum Lines. So they replaced all the Vacuum Hoses and Pipes. It has been running fine for a week now, without any issues.
