Hey dropped545, I had the same problem on startup. There was a rough idle that caused the rpm gauge to jump like a hopping rabbit. There's an SIB out on this issue I'll have to look for it, perhaps Rudy can assist on this. I took this SIB to the dealership and they ended rebuilding the engine. there were some control levers that had to be replaced in. I think it was all 16(2 per cylinder if I'm correct). It took about three weeks and cost the dealership something like 8k. But it was fully covered under waranty, so I would suggest if you are still under warranty to have the dealer do this work before its up. It did solve the problem for me, for the most part 97%.
Hope this helps.

Wow, they rebuilt your engine... in a 2005 car? Are these cars a little less dependable than the rest, or what. I got a taste of BMW reliability when my head gasket blew at 58,000 miles. ![Frown](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/sad.gif)

Yea I was surprised to find that out as well. the only down side was that I had a 328i as a loaner, if it was an M5 I would've had them keep it for a month

ive had a rough idle since i bought my cpo in july of 08. vibration is only at an idle and fluctuates when stopped but as soon as i touch the gas the vibration stops and the ride is very smooth. 3 trips to dealer and i got it reduced by 50%. they replaced the engine mounts and cam sensors so far. my next trip which happens to be tomorrow, should complete the process by replacing the transmission dampener. not exactly sure what that is but from what they tell me its the rubber spacer btwn the engine and transmission. they also told me its not under warranty which i dont understand so ill find out more info tomorrow.
