Agreed. For our purposes, drilled and or slotted brakes is only for appearances and there are disadvantages to drilling - less braking area and risk of the disc cracking.

Hi,I've read pros and cons with the rotors, they come stock on a lot of high performance cars,so they can't be that bad. I do a lot of hi way driving so there perfect for me. I think I may have purchased the wrong pads tho, they are ceramic, but I couldn't find a ton of reviews but I gave them a shot spectrum 3000, I'll do a check in when I seat them in. I'll try anything once

Just like with any product, there are good and not-so-good brands. The Akebono ceramics get good reviews.

That's probably the best all around pad in all the readings I have found,I gave these a shot, those are my back up.

hey everyone. thanks for your suggestions. i ended up going with the zimmerman coat z rotors and akebono ceramic pads. while i had all the tools out, i replaced all four of the original brake lines and did a fluid flush since i had the system open. since i had a hand-help mityvac pump, i decided to use that. initially i was concerned that it wouldnt be as effective as the pressure method (i.e. a motive), but it went really well to get all the old fluid and air bubbles out.

i'm still getting used to the different pedal feel of ceramic pads vs. the OEM metallic pads. as so many others have noted, there is definitely less bite on initial pedal press, but the brake response seems more linear than it did with the OEM pads. i'm sure ill get used to it pretty quickly.

next project: fuel filter

If I simply got slotted but not drilled (mostly for looks) would that have a negative effect on pad wear?

Also does anyone have experience with the black coated rotors? I have black wheels and I'm not convinced they would look good but it's something different I'd be willing to try.

Thoughts?

None will have a negative impact, they are functional for a reason. People do argue that hot track temperatures could make them more prone to crack. For street duty it's fine. The black ceramic coating is for the non contact surfaces, ie the hubs and edges, which is really nice when they resist corrosion. Don't be fooled into thinking the actual surface of the rotor will remain black. Most good rotors are still zinc coated so it resists corrosion anyways.

My indy has run into Zimmermans warping. I went OEM rotors and Akebono pads though. SOOOO much less dust.
