This is what I have for my car. One end connects to the AUX input and the other end connects into the bottom part of the iPod (not the ear jack connector).

That would work but you need a "firewire to dc" line too. And they are out of stock. This is a more elegant solution to your needs though.

Chris,
Thanks for the response, have you tried this? If so just wondering how it sounded.
Looks like we have similiar tastes in vehicles, how do you like it?

As for the car, I'm loving it. As you know, the car drives like it's on rails - it's really well balanced. Also, the cabin is really quiet (maybe even more so if I switch out the RFTs in the future). Silver gray looks great and doesn't show dirt or scratches easily and the black leather is a good complementary color.
I will also agree with cmansbimmer about satellite radio. I rarely use my iPod in the car anymore because the music/talk selections on Sirius are pretty comprehensive.

Do a search online for this product. Someone has to have it available. J&R in NY isn't the only place. It's great. Also, I just run the wire down under the passengers seat.
For a cradle, I use this. It's sleek and great. I had it on my E39 as well. No real wires showing and no mess. And when I clean the car, I just unplug it and throw it in the glove compartment.

You need a device holder and a mount. don't click on E60 for BMW. click in 5 series/m5 and your year when selecting vehicle mounts.

You don't use the firewire with this. Although included, you never use it. I don't use that connector. I just plug the pin into the pin hole on the input for the piece that connects to the bottom of the ipod. It's great. Plus, I have a PC at home, not a MAC, so the firewire is useless to me. I only need the 3.5mm stereo insert. This is what he can use too.
