Roof Damaged from Rock - Repaired
Last week while driving on the interstate I heard a very loud noise. It ended up being a rock I guess or something similar that het the roof just behind the glass. Actually, I wish it had hit the glass then I could have had that replaced. After looking at it closer, there is a very slight dent with paint missing. I'm not planning to repair the dent but I did repair the chip. I used automotive base paint, 2K Clear, 2500 & 3000 g wet paper, 3m compound, polishing compound, polish and glaze. The white spots and specs you see is the splatter of the compound picked up from the camera due to the zoom level I was using.
The process is to apply the paint in small amounts just inside the chip trying to keep it off the top surface. My paint was thin so it was difficult and I ended up with some on the top surface so had to sand it off with the 2500. Apply a second coat if needed. You need to keep it below the surface and the clear will fill up the rest. Next apply the 2K clear and let dry until next day. Wet sand with 2500 and 3000 using a block. Buff with 3m compound, polishing compound, then polish to remove the swirls and final with glaze. The end result looks nice without the nasty chip!
