Just happened to me also. I called my dealership and asked who they used for windshield replacement. I then called the insurance company and SPECIFIED oem glass and the dealership's installer. The installer replaced the windshield in the parking lot at my place of work in about 30 minutes. Cost me the $100 for the insurance comprehensive deductible. Really was not a big deal.

The genuine BMW windshield is around $600 and you're looking for about $200 instalation if done at the dealer. Some glass companies can probably do it a lot cheaper. However here are a few things to consider:
1. Some people claim that the OEM windshield is "soft" and breakes easier than aftermarket windshields. Though nobody has the data to back up this statement.
2. The rain sensor and light sensor may need initialization after the replacement of the windshield. Something the dealer can do easily.
3. There are stories on the internet with people having problems with rain/light sensors and some that have none with aftermarket windshields.

In summary, if you haven't done any claims with your insurance and your comprehensive deductible is low or none then you should go the dealer path. If not then your decision might be different.

I thought windshields are no deductible repairs through insurance and it doesnt raise your rate. I know when my LR3 got a stone chip in it, state farm paid for the whole repair...nothing out of my pocket

Had the same thing happen to me. The local dealer charged +$1000. In looking at the bill, the dealer "gave" me a new rain sensor to boot.
