I have had BMW's for the last 20 years and currently own an E61 M Sport.
But, I am glad to see the back of E60 production. It was always a challenging 'fugly' car and it now feels and looks like it was designed in 2004 (by BMW standards).
It is still engineered better than any Audi, VW etc, but the design was never accepted by the critics and never will be.. I suspect that many E60 buyers were like me, and bought the car through brand loyaly and engineering / driveability rather than design looks. I definately didn't buy mine for the looks, that's for sure.
The F10 will be the the almost perfect synergy between design and engineenering. Once we see a few on the road with decent wheels and paint, the E60 will look like an antique. And once the F10 has a few revisions in 16-18 months it will look even better.

does that mean they are not making the touring either?
it just seems weird - the F11 will be introduced in September 2010, so if they stop making the E61 now, that would mean about a year with no 5er Tourings sold - can that be right?

e60 will always be the sexiest 5 for me

Correct. The 550 won not because of its power (because it was not the most powerful car) but rather for its unbelievable ability to carry speed through the corners. The thing just goes faster through the corners than the competition. At times, my car astonishes me by how fast it can take a corner (with my max summer performance tires on) and how predictable its handling is at the limit.
The review you talking about was the one with the Lincoln right?
