I use the voice commands as often as possible but it is soooo slowwww to do anything that requires multiple entries (ie; enter an address in the nav system. I have friends with Garmins and they are out of the parking lot and running before I can get to entering the city! The system works but it needs a much faster interface IMHO.

How's your BMW Assist situation, Herr Pukka?
I already faxed the necessary documents to get the warranty started. I was playing around with the iDrive yesterday and figured out how to transmit the initial data and wound up speaking with a BMW assist rep through the car. Now I'm working on scheduling an appt with an SA to complete the setup and resolve my NAV DVD issue.

Thanks for asking

You're welcome. Do you recall what settings you changed?

I didn't really change anything. From the communications area on iDrive screen I selected "Initiate Services". The car began to transmit data and about two minutes later I was speaking with a rep. The German phone numbers that were previously there are now replaced with BMW assist options like Concierge, Service, etc.

The rep instructed me to bring the car in to a Service Center so they can complete the setup and explain the service in more detail. There's a few other minor things I can also bring to their attention, so I figure I'll just dedicate a day for the experience and drink as much free beverages as possible

The iDrive in my 06 550i was good and is even better in my 08. Much faster and more logical. Not sure that it really needed much refinement.

I would bet you are pretty much set up as is. I had forgotten about the Initiate Services command. That's what the BMW Center would do. I would initiate a few test calls and also enquire about your subscription to make sure it's active and expiring at the right time.
