Retrofit Rear Side Manual Sunshades?
#1
Hi Everyone,
Anyone know what is involved in retrofiting an '08 E61 with rear side manual sunshades? And is it practical?
According to the guy at the local BMW body shop, it would be very expensive because completely different rear doors are required for this retrofit. Personally, I find it hard to believe that BMW would stock two different door assemblies for a $250 option. Not real efficient!
My passengers loved these in my E39 and I'm surprised they are not standard equipment by now. Heck, it was the only feature my wife wanted and she didn't get it--the disadvantage of buying used I tell her!

Thanks. That diagram is a big help for understanding what goes on inside the door. It looks to me like, in addition to the blinds hardware, new window frames with openings would be required--and that should be it. I have no idea what they would cost but it would be a lot cheaper then new doors.

Look like you might need interior trim too, I'm guessing you would need to spend over $1k per door
