I was told it will not deploy any of the air bags since it does not register anyone sitting in the seat.

that is strange - because as a passenger gets into the front seat, the airbag light on the top console switches off...means that something does sense that a passenger is now in teh front seat. If sensor gets that and switches off the light on top, then it should ideally deploy the airbag (?)
I havent been able to get a correct answer for this yet...perhaps I will go to BMW and see what they have to say..

I have the following situation, 2 months AFTER having the s/w recall performed (s/w recall is a result of Class Action Lawsuit)

Overhead light works properly, iDrive has Restraint System Failure, Dealer diagnosis, seat mat sensor failure, cost $1100.

AND, Hyundai (not to insult any of us) just issued a seat mat sensor failure that may affect > 300,000 vehicles.

My vehicle is an 04/545i and i am not happy.

Was there a BMW recall for this issue ever - is there a copy available? and if it affects my model, will BMW fix this even though I am out of warranty?

I bought extended warranty but found out today that safety restraint system is not covered becaue only manufacture can warranty that. (Don't know whether it is BS or true).

$1100 sounds quite high for just changing the sensor!

hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. i was wondering if anyone had any info or luck in getting this error fixed of if BMWNA can help in anyway?

I just bought a 04 545i a few weeks ago, i just got this error last night. i took it in to the dealer, and the dealer said it was the seat sensor that is faulty and needs to be replaced and then the code reset, costing over 700 just for the part not including labor. i just went out of warranty and wasn't able to purchase the extended since the name on the bmw computer system did not change to my name yet.

also, i printed out the document from the litagation from the link above my post and the dealer didn't care.

any suggestions? please help!!!

thank you in advance.

Contact BMWNA. I was out of warranty... settled on 500., better than 1100, but still more than if i had the Other Brand. Dealer Service manager had no interest in helping out (10% on 1100).

Good luck, mike
